Dino Snores for Kids: Space Special FAQs

  • To book for a school, scout or brownie group, download and send a group booking order form to dino-snores@nhm.ac.uk.
  • Our team will confirm your reservation and issue an invoice for payment. We don't offer a separate price for group bookings.
  • We can't reserve tickets until the Dino Snores team receives the completed form. Reservations are subject to availability at the time the form is received. Dino Snores events sell out quickly so we recommend returning the form as soon as possible. Read our group booking terms and conditions.
  • All group bookings must adhere to our adult:child ratios (PDF). Adults within the group are responsible for the supervision of the children at all times and must be aged 18+. All children must be aged 7–17 as per our age restrictions for the event.
  • If you have completed and sent your order form to the Dino Snores team, see our risk assessment information to help you write your risk assessment for your visit.
  • Our Dino Snores for Kids: Space Special is suitable for children aged 7–17. The format of the event and the content of the activities mean this event is suitable for a wider range of ages than our normal Dino Snores for Kids sleepovers.
  • Make sure you bring a sleeping bag, toothbrush and clothes to sleep in. We recommend you arrive in clothes you can sleep in.
  • The clothes you’ll sleep in need to be suitable and warm enough to stand outside during an emergency evacuation.
  • For health and safety reasons, you must wear shoes at all times inside the Museum, apart from when you’re sleeping.
  • We recommend you bring a bottle of water, pillow, torch, ear plugs and an eye mask to sleep in, as some lights will remain on throughout the night.
  • We recommend you don’t bring any items of financial or sentimental value, as we can’t take responsibility if these get lost or damaged.
  • You won’t be able to plug in any electrical items during the event, so we recommend you bring a portable charger with you. Get in touch if you require access to power or refrigeration for medical reasons.
  • Keep in mind the weather and bring layers according to the season. The temperature can fluctuate in Hintze Hall.
  • We recommend that you eat a meal before arriving.
  • Our T. rex Restaurant will be open between 19.30 and 21.30.
  • You’re welcome to bring your own food. This will need to be eaten in our picnic areas, as food is not allowed in our galleries.
  • In the morning, we’ll provide you with a hot sausage or bacon roll, piece of fruit, juice and tea or coffee. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options are also available. If you have specific dietary requirements, let us know via the pre-event form. We can’t guarantee that our breakfast will be nut, gluten or dairy free.
  • If you or your children can’t eat the breakfast provided, let us know when you book. You can bring your own breakfast with you, but make sure that it doesn’t need to be refrigerated overnight. We’ll collect these items from you when you arrive and keep them safe until you need them. Make sure you collect your breakfast items from our staff in the morning before the breakfast break at 07.15.
  • Our Central Cafe will open at 08.30 on Sunday.
  • We’re working hard to reduce our carbon footprint, so we no longer sell single-use plastic bottles of water. We have water refill stations available around the building. Bring your own re-useable water bottle.
  • We can’t guarantee a nut-free environment. If you or any of the children in your group have any allergies you’re concerned about, ask us about this when you book.
  • If you think that you might not get here on time, email us.
  • If you arrive late, you may miss some of the activities. If you arrive after 20.00, unfortunately we won’t be able to let you in and you won’t be given a refund.
  • You’ll be sleeping in Hintze Hall on either the Ground Floor or on the First Floor or Second Floor balconies.

  • You won’t be able to use our cloakrooms during the event, instead your belongings will be kept in the sleeping areas.
  • Our cloakrooms are only available during our public opening hours between 10.00 and 17.30. If you pay to leave your luggage in our cloakrooms during the day before you come to the event in the evening, then you’ll need to collect your items before 17.30, leave the building and then re-enter at your allotted time.

  • The consumption of alcohol is strictly forbidden at our Dino Snores for Kids sleepovers. If our staff suspect you’ve been consuming alcohol, our Events Manager has the right to search your bags and test your liquids. If you’re caught with alcohol, your party will be removed from the event immediately.
  • In extreme circumstances, anyone behaving inappropriately, for alcohol-related reasons or otherwise, may be ejected from the event at the discretion of the Events Manager and our Security Team.
  • We have first-aiders available to assist.
  • Yes. Dino Snores for Kids encourages participation from children with disabilities and aims to be inclusive and welcoming for all children.
  • We’ll do all we can to make sure that additional needs are met and that reasonable adjustments are made wherever possible. Be aware it’s the responsibility of the accompanying adult to ensure that the event environment is suitable for any child in their care. If you’d like to talk to our team to learn more about whether the event would be suitable for you, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
  • If anyone in your group has additional needs or accessibility or health requirements, let us know when you’re booking.

We can’t offer a refund once you’ve purchased your ticket. If you need to amend a confirmed booking, the following conditions apply:

  • If you need to change the date of your event, we require notice at least 30 days before the event date you originally booked.
  • There’s a £10 admin charge per ticket for moving your tickets. All ticket transfers are subject to availability and are at the manager’s discretion.
  • You can only move your booking to an event that’s within one year of the date of your original event. After this point we can’t move your ticket. Any children on the booking must still fall within the required age bracket of 7–17 years old.
  • You can add children or adults to your booking if tickets are still available so long as you still comply with our group size requirements (PDF). If the event is sold out, this won’t be possible, so book early to avoid disappointment.
  • If you’re collecting ticket fees from a large group, keep these booking terms in mind and allow enough time to tell us about any changes in numbers.
  • We’re unable to confirm a booking until full payment has been received.
  • Schools, Scouts and Brownies groups are welcome at Dino Snores, complete the group order form (PDF) and return to dino-snores@nhm.ac.uk. Group invoices are payable within 30 days of the event. We can’t accept changes later than 30 days before the event.
  • The exits will be closed between 23.00 and 07.00. It won’t be possible to leave between these times except in an emergency. We don’t advise leaving early, as you’ll miss some of the fun. If you wish to leave between 07.00 and 09.15 in the morning, let us know when you book and we’ll do our best to accommodate you.
