Radiolarian collection
Glass model of the radiolarian Eucecryphalus schultzei created in the nineteenth century by Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka
The Museum's radiolarian collection is small but contains many important specimens. It is a valuable resource for dating rocks and studying oceans of the past.
Strengths
The radiolarian collection contains:
- historically important material collected in the late 1800s by Ernst Haeckel
- an extensive radiolarian book and reprint collection donated by Bill Riedel
- part of the Museum’s collection of Blaschka glass radiolarian models
