The Museum's radiolarian collection is small but contains many important specimens. It is a valuable resource for dating rocks and studying oceans of the past.

Strengths

The radiolarian collection contains:

  • historically important material collected in the late 1800s by Ernst Haeckel
  • an extensive radiolarian book and reprint collection donated by Bill Riedel
  • part of the Museum’s collection of Blaschka glass radiolarian models

If you would like to use any specimens for research

Access to some collections will be affected as we prepare for the move to our new collections, science and digitisation centre.

Scientists and collections management specialists can visit the collections and borrow specimens for research.
