Graduate Centre

The Natural History Museum’s Graduate Centre provides many opportunities for postgraduate research and study.

Undertaking a postgraduate degree with us offers a unique chance to experience teaching and research outside of a university setting. Students have access to our collection of over 80 million specimens, our extensive research facilities, and the chance to work with leading researchers and curators throughout their degree.

We foster a positive, inclusive environment for all our students and offer a calendar of in-house training and social activities. We have an active student committee, and students are encouraged to get involved with science communication and public engagement activities across the Museum.

We offer competitively funded PhD opportunities via our partnerships in UKRI-funded PhD programmes, as well as through studentships awarded directly to the Museum. If you are a UKRI-funded PhD student interested in coming to the Museum for a placement funded by your programme, please get in touch with us.

We also co-host several Master’s programmes with University College London and Imperial College London. These courses comprise teaching at the Museum alongside the host university and the opportunity to undertake a Master’s research project based at the Museum.
