This onsite workshop introduces your Year Six class to the concepts that underpin evolution through natural selection.
This workshop is an ideal introduction to the subject of evolution but is equally useful for reinforcing prior knowledge through hands-on and engaging activities.
1. Pupils will learn what evolution is by getting hands-on with sensory objects and specimens to explore how horses have evolved over time. They will use fossil evidence to demonstrate how the environment influenced the evolution of these animals.
2. Pupils will learn how and why evolution happens by exploring Charles Darwin's theory of natural selection. They will look at a real-life example of evolution, happening today, based on research from Museum scientists.
3. Pupils will use critical thinking skills to consider how animals in the UK could evolve in the future.
