Mammal Challenge

MC Grammar managed to beat the Rap Catcher with 14 mammal facts. Remember! Mammals are animals that have fur and warm blood, they give birth to live young and feed their young with milk (although there are some exceptions).

Can your class think of any mammals that …

  • Swim in rivers
  • Swing in forests
  • Dive in oceans
  • Fly in the air
  • Live in Australia
  • Swim in rivers - beavers, otters, hippo, capybara, voles, rats
  • Swing in forests - gibbons, orangutans, monkeys, sloths, tree-kangaroos
  • Dive in oceans - whales, dolphins, seals, dugongs
  • Fly in the air - bats (or gliding animals like flying squirrels and colugos)
  • Live in Australia - kangaroos, wombats, platypus, echidna, koala, dingo, Tasmanian devils

Mammal mimics

Humans are mammals too. Can your class do their best impression of each of these mammals? You can choose to use noises or body actions to mimic the mammal:

  • elephant
  • mouse
  • kangaroo
  • wolf
  • lion
  • armadillo

Riddles

Can you solve the clues and work out which mammal is being described?

'I have two humps on my back, and I live by the sand,
I am strong and can walk very far over the land.'

What mammal am I?

'I am asleep during the day and awake at night,
When I am ready, I open my wings and take flight.'

What mammal am I?

'I am black and white with sharp claws too,
and love to eat lots and lots of bamboo.'
