Reed pastels

Michel d'Oultremont's Image

Rather than take close-ups of the bearded tits feeding in the reeds, Michel decided to pull back out to a wider view of the scene.

He set up his tripod at the edge of the reed bed on a frozen lake near Rotterdam. The movement of the wind-blown fluffy seed heads became part of the composition. The harmony between the colours of the sky, the reeds and the grey and orange plumage of the little male – all bathed in winter light – is captured perfectly.

Michel d'Oultremont

Belgium

Michel's passion for nature began as a child growing up in the beautiful surroundings of a small village in Belgium. He started taking pictures as a teenager. His photography is guided by the emotions that the natural world evokes in him. By photographing animals in their environment, he hopes to help raise awareness of the beauty of nature and the importance of conservation.
